Setelah kota Bangkok Thailand, berusaha menjadikannya sebagai kota Wi-fi, maka Cina juga tidak mau kalah. Untuk mendukung pelaksanaan Olimpiade di Beijing yang akan berlangsung tidak lama lagi, maka kota Beijing akan bersiap diri dengan mengembangkan sebuah proyek yang dinamakan dengan Beijing WiCity. Proyek ini akan menjadikan siapapun yang berada di kota Beijing akan dapat mengakses internet dari manapun dia berada.

Proyek ini akan dibagi menjadi tiga tahap. Tahap pertama memang dikaitkan untuk mendukung pelaksanaan Olimpiade 2008 ini. Tahap pertama akan dioperasikan di kota Beijing untuk melayani tamu Olimpiade dengan sinyal yang menjangkau sekitar 100 Km persegi. Kecepatan akses internet yang dapat digunakan menggunakan kecepatan 512 Kbps dan dapat dinikmasi gratis oleh semua orang.

Pembangunan tahap kedua akan dilaksanakan pada akhir tahun 2009 dan menjangkau wilayah pinggiran. Sedangkan tahap ketiga, yang merupakan tahap akhir proyek ini akan selesai pada akhir tahun 2010. Diharapkan pada akhir proyek ini, koneksi wireless ini sudah dapat menjangkau seluruh kota Beijing hingga sampai dengan wilayah pedesaan.

Trus, Jakarta kapan rencana anda ? Apa sudah siap ?

Jika beberapa bulan yang lalu, pemerintah Surabaya mulai mencanangkan pengembangan daerah free Hot Spot di beberapa titik di Surabaya, maka di Bangkok, sebagai ibukota Thailand, juga tidak mau kalah. Bangkok akan menghijaukan kotanya dengan memberikan akses wi-fi gratis kepada 500.000 orang penduduknya. Sebagai pilot project akan dimulai pada hari ini, dengan memberikan 15.000 hotspot kepada para penduduknya. Demikian informasi yang didapatkan dari pemerintah Bangkok. (Seperti yang diberitakan di Msn News).

Rencananya penduduk kota Bangkok bisa terkoneksi dengan Internet, tanpa harus mengeluarkan biaya untuk perjalanan yang mampu menebar polusi di kota Bangkok. Dengan adanya akses internet gratis ini, maka penduduk kota Bangkok dapat melakukan komunikasi dengan beberapa rekannya dimanapun mereka berada. Jika konsep ini berhasil dilakukan, pemerintah Bangkok mengharapkan adanya pengurangan polusi udara yang diakibatkan kendaraan di Bangkok. Serta mampu mengurangi krisis energi di masa depan.

Pelayanan ini, akan diujicoba pada tahun pertama, dengan kecepatan yang cukup rendah, hanya sekitar 64 Kbps dan memang dirancang untuk mengecek dan mengirim email. Pengguna harus menggunakan kartu khusus untuk dapat mengakses ke hotspot.

Ide ini cukup bagus, bahkan bisa menjadikan kota Bangkok sebagai Cyber City. Konsep ini mungkin bisa ditiru oleh pemerintah Surabaya, yang ingin menjadikan Surabaya sebagai Cyber City. Hanya saja, perlu diperhatikan pemeliharaan alat dan sambungan koneksi internetnya. Jangan sampai terjadi, baru berjalan beberapa bulan, terus koneksi internetnya terputus dan sudah tidak bisa dipakai kembali.

Indonesia terkenal dengan berbagai macam kebudayaannya. Hampir semua propinsi dan daerah di Indonesia, memiliki bermacam-macam budaya tradisional. Hanya saja, sayangnya kebudayaan tradisional Indonesia tersebut kurang mendapat hati di masyarakat Indonesia saat ini. Banyak sekali generasi muda yang mulai melupakan berbagai macam kebudayaan tradisional, hal ini akibat derasnya kebudayaan barat yang masuk ke negara kita. Hal ini cukup ironis, dikarenakan budaya Indonesia sendiri sebenarnya disenangi oleh negara-negara di Eropa sana.

Seperti yang pernah dimuat oleh korang Jawa Pos, beberapa hari lalu. Di KBRI Wina, Austria, saat ini sering diadakan pelatihan gamelan untuk para mahasiswa Austria. Bahkan kebudayaan Indonesia, dijadikan salah satu mata kuliah oleh salah satu Universitas di Austria. Cukup ironis bukan. Mengapa, Indonesia yang memiliki kebudayaannya sendiri, malah tidak memperhatikan kebudayaannya. Namun negara lain, malah ikut melestarikan kebudayaan Indonesia.

Sudah saatnya kita kaum muda, mencoba untuk melestarikan ataupun kebih memperkenalkan budaya Indonesia di kancah Internasional. Seperi yang dilakukan oleh sekelompok komunitas wayang di Indonesia. Mereka meluncurkan web site yang berisi segala macam yang berkaitan dengan Wayang. Seperti kita ketahui, wayang adalah salah satu kebudayaan Indonesia yang cukup terkenal. Dengan membangun situs www.wayang-indonesia.com, maka kita dapat mempelajari seluk beluk mengenai wayang. Mulai kisah-kisah wayang, tokoh-tokoh perwayangan maupun sejarah-sejarah perwayangangan. Situs ini diluncurkan dalam dua bahasa (Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris) sehingga memudahkan orang asing mempelajari tentang perwayangan di Indonesia.

Hal yang dilakukan oleh para komunitas ini sangat menarik. Di saat perkembangan kemajuan dunia internet semakin maju, mereka mencoba memperkenalkan kebudayaan Indonesia, khususnya wayang, ke dunia internasiolan. Setidaknya hal ini adalah langkah awal, untuk melestarikan kebudayaan Indonesia. Sehingag tidak direbut oleh negara lain. Kita tunggu saja, dengan kebudayaan-kebudayaan lainnya. (heyu)

Anda takut ponsel baru anda rusak ? Mungkin karena jatuh, kena air ataupun kecelakaan lainnya. Anda tidak perlu takut dan tidak perlu cemas. Sekarang sudah ada asuransi yang akan melindung ponsel anda. Seperi yang ditulis didalam detik.net, PT.EXTRA PROTEKSI INDONESIA (EXPRO) kembali meluncurkan sebuah produk asuransi baru, yang hampir tidak pernah disentuk oleh beberapa perusahaan asuransi lainnya, yaitu asuransi Ponsel.

Bekerja sama dengan beberapa ponsel ternama seperti Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung dan LG, EXPRO akan menganggung dan melindungi ponsel baru yang diberi oleh konsumen. Expro akan memberikan perbaikan atau penggantian sampai dengan harga pertanggungan, dengan hanya menanggung own risk sebesar 10 persen. Namun EXPRO tidak memasukkan kehilangan di dalam daftar klaim asuransinya.

Bisnis ini cukup menarik, disaat garansi yang diberikan oleh para vendor ponsel tidak menyentuh segala kerusakan yang diakibatkan oleh pemakai, EXPRO berusaha masuk ke dalam celah bisnis ini. Dengan hanya membayar sekita Rp. 12 ribu pertahun atau tiga persen dari harga beli ponsel, maka sejak pertanggal konsumen membeli ponsel tersebut, EXPRO akan melindungi ponsel konsumennya.

Namun perjanjian ini hanya berlaku selama satu tahun saja dan tidak berlaku perpanjangan, karena hal ini memang disesuaikan dengan garansi yang diberikan oleh para vendor. Bisnis ini cukup menarik karena masih tergolong baru. Dan EXPRO bahkan berani menargetkan sekitar 30-60 % dari total penjualan ponsel yang didistribusikan di Indonesia akan mengasuransikan ponselnya ke EXPRO.

Memang dari sisi konsumen, juga diuntungkan. Bahkan bisa dibilang, akan mampu melindungi ponsel yang dibelinya dari kecerobohan yang dilakukan para konsumen. Mungkin yang menjadi sedikit permasalahan disini, adalah sejauh mana perbaikan yang diberikan oleh pihak EXPRO kepada konsumennya yang melakukan klaim. Terutama untuk masalah waktu perbaikannya. Sudah bukan menjadi rahasia umum, bahwa perbaikan ponsel yang rusak biasanya memakan waktu yang cukup panjang. Dan alasan yang diberikan oleh pihak service center adalah klise, yaitu suku cadang tidak ada, harus nunggu dari pusat. Semoga hal ini bukan menjadi alasan dari EXPRO untuk memberikan pelayanan yang terbaik buat konsumennya. Jika memang EXPRO mampu menjaga pelayanannnya, bukan tidak mungkin lebih dari sekitar 60 % ponsel baru yang didistribusikan di Indonesia akan diasuransikan ke EXPRO… Kita tunggu saja tanggal mainnya… (heyu)

Computex Show akan diadakan sekitar tanggal 3 Juni sampai 7 Juni di Taiwan, yang akan berisi mengenai produk-produk IT terbaru dari masing-masing vendor IT terkemuka. Salah satunya adalah AsusTEK. Setelah beberapa bulan yang lalu, cukup heboh dengan mengeluarkan Laptop Mininya dengan seri Asus EEE PC 900, maka di even tersebut Asus akan mengeluarkan seri terbaru EEE dengan nama Asus EEE PC 1000.

Belum ada informasi resmi dari ASUSTEK mengenai spesifikasi detail Asus EEE PC 100. Namun diperkirakan bahwa tidak akan berbeda dengan Asus tipe EEE PC 901, yang keluar dengan layar beukuran 10 inch. Sesuai dengan undangan yang diberikan kepada beberapa jurnalis, di Even tersebut Asus juga akan memperkenalkan Asus EEE PC 901. Tidak tahu alasan mengapa Asus mengeluarkan dan melaunching dua buah produk dengan tipe yang hampir mirip pada saat bersamaan.

Bahkan beberapa pengamat, memperkirakan bahwa jika memang spesifikasi yang dikeluarkan tidak jauh berbeda, maka popularitas dari Asus EEE PC 901 akan menurun, karena diperkirakan Asus EEE PC 1000 lebih banyak pengembangan spesifikasi dari sebelumnya.

Dalam kompetisi pasar yang sangat ketat sekarang ini, sudah jelas bahwa perusahaan yang memiliki informasi dan analisa data yang kuat yang akan memenangkan persaingan bisnis. Analisa data sudah menjadi kebutuhan vital bagi sebuah perusahaan untuk meningkatkan daya saingnya. Pengambilan keputusan bergaya enterpreneur yang cenderung mengandalkan intuisi menjadi kurang relevan di tengah lingkungan persaingan bisnis yang semakin ketat. Naik turunnya penjualan sebuah produk tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh mahal atau tidaknya sebuah barang serta baik buruknya sebuah produk. Ternyata banyak faktor dominan lain, seperti demografi, geografi, penawaran bahkan faktor emosional.

Perusahaan membutuhkan sebuah alat yang mampu mengolah data-data yang dimilikinya menjadi informasi bernilai lebih baik dan tidak hanya terpaku pada angka-angka mati. Alat tersebut harus mampu menterjemahkan berbagai hal implisit dan gejala penting dari sekumpulan data. Salah satunya adalah Business Intelligence, atau yang sering disebut dengan BI.

BI merupakan sebuah proses untuk melakukan ektraksi data-data operasional perusahaan dan mengumpulkannya dalam sebuah data warehouse. Selanjutnya data pada data warehouse diproses menggunakan berbagai analisis statisktik dalam proses data mining, sehingga didapat berbagai kecenderungan atau pattern dari data. Hasilnya akan diberikan kepada end user yang biasanya adalah merupakan pengambilan keputusan bisnis. Karena data yang diolah dalam proses BI didapat dari sistem operasional, maka umumnya perusahaan yang akan menerapkan BI sudah memiliki ERP yang berjalan baik.

Informasi dan data adalah komponen yang paling berharga. BI telah membuktiken kemampuannya untuk mengakses berbagai informasi yang beragam, namun biasanya hal itu masih diimplemantasikan pada suatu departemen atau berbasis proyek. Karena data yang diolah dalam BI didapat dari data operasional, maka umumnya peruahaan yang akan menerapkan BI harus sudah memiliki ERP yang berjalan baik. (heyu)

Perkembangan dunia telekomunikasi (baca : Handphone) di Indonesia, sudah sangat pesat. Di setiap sudut-sudut kota, kita akan melihat setiap orang memiliki handphone. Ditambah lagi dengan begitu banyaknya perang tarif antar operator, yang terkadang sedikit membingungkan namun juga menguntungkan bagi para konsumen. Namun di satu sisi, perkembangan tersebut membuat sebuah bisnis baru di bidang musik dan entertainment. Di saat dunia musik Indonesia, sulit sekali memberantas yang namanya pembajakan, muncul sebuah bisnis baru yang hingga saat ini (semoga selamanya) belum dapat dibajak. Yaitu Back Tone.

Macam-macam istilahnya. Setiap operator telekomunikasi pasti memiliki sendiri-sendiri istilah tersebut. Seperti Telkomsel dengan NSP 1212, XL dengan RBT, Indosat dengan i-Ring dan sebagainya. Hampir setiap hari, dapat kita lihat di televisi, banyak band-band ataupun para penyanyi solois, berusaha mengiklankan lagu mereka agar dapat dipilih oleh konsumen handphone sebagai lagu di Back Tone-nya. Bahkan bisnis ini sendiri sudah sangat dihargai oleh insan musik Indonesia, terbukti dengan adanya kategori Nada Sambung Pribadi atau Back Tone pada beberapa ajang penganugerahan musik Indonesia, seperti AMI (Anugerah Musik Indonesia) dsb.

Tidak ada yang salah dari fenomena ini. Hanya saja, hal ini merupakan kegelisahan dari para musisi yang telah capai untuk memberantas pembajakan. Mereka tidak tahu lagi bagaimana caranya memberantas pembajakan di Indonesia. Setiap ada album baru yang akan keluar, maka kita tidak akan sulit untuk mendapatkannya di kios-kios kaki lima, dalam bentuk format MP3 ataupun CD-Audio. Ataupun di satu sisi dapat kita lihat, hal ini merupakan kegagalan dari pemerintah untuk memberantas pembajakan itu sendiri.

Semoga dengan adanya bisnis ini, akan membuat bisnis musik Indonesia akan semakin berkembang, tidak lagi semakin terpuruk akibat pembajakan. Dan yang penting adalah akan membuat para musisi Indonesia untuk lebih giat berkarya dan menghasilkan lagu-lagu yang akan dikenang sepanjang masa. (heyu)

With Internet Explorer 8 now available, can Microsoft hope to retain market dominance over fierce open source rivals such as Mozilla’s Firefox or the feature packed Opera web browser. Can history give us a clue to what the future of web browsers/browsing might hold? How did Netscape Navigator go from having a dominant 89.36% market share of all web browsers in 1996 and yet only 3.76% by mid 1999?

Let us take a journey that will begin long before even the intellectual conception of Internet Explorer, that will glance at its long defeated rivals, examine the current browsers available and will end with a prediction of what the future of browsing will offer us – and which browser(s) will still be around to offer it.

People often think that Internet Explorer has been the dominant web browser since the golden age of the internet began. Well for a very long time now it has indeed been the most popular browser and at times been almost totally unrivalled. This was mainly a result of it being packaged free with Microsoft Windows, in what some would later call a brutal monopolisation attempt by Microsoft. The last few years however have heralded the arrival of new, possibly superior browsers. Mozilla’s Firefox has been particularly successful at chipping away at Explorers market dominance. So where did it all begin, and why were Microsoft ever allowed to have a hundred percent market dominance?

Origins

The truth is they never did have total dominance, but at times they have come very close. Microsoft actually entered the Browser Battle quite late on. Infact a man named Neil Larson is credited to be one of the originators of internet browsers, when in 1977 he created a program – The TRS-80 – that allowed browsing between “sites” via hypertext jumps. This was a DOS program and the basis of much to come. Slowly other browsers powered by DOS and inspired by the TRS 80 were developed. Unfortunately they were often constricted by the limitations of the still fairly young internet itself.

In 1988, Peter Scott and Earle Fogel created a simple, fast browser called Hytelnet, which by 1990 offered users instant logon and access to the online catalogues of over five thousand libraries around the world – an exhilarating taste of what the internet, and web browsers, would soon be able to offer.

In 1989 the original World Wide Web was born. Using a NeXTcube computer, Tim Berners-Lee created a web browser that would change how people used the internet forever. He called his browser the WorldWideWeb(http://www., which is still likely to sound familiar to internet users today. It was a windowed browser capable of displaying simple style sheet, capable of editing sites and able to download and open any file type supported by the NeXTcube.

In 1993 the first popular graphical browser was released. Its name was Mosaic and it was created by Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina. Mosaic could be run on both Unix, and very importantly, on the highly popular Microsoft Windows operating system (incidentally it could also be used on Amiga and Apple computers). It was the first browser on Windows that could display graphics/pictures on a page where there was also textual content. It is often cited as being responsible for triggering the internet boom due to it making the internet bearable for the masses. (It should be noted that the web browser Cello was the first browser to be used on Windows – but it was non graphical and made very little impact compared to Mosaic).

The Browser Wars – Netscape Navigator versus Internet Explorer

Mosaic’s decline began almost as soon as Netscape Navigator was released (1994). Netscape Navigator was a browser created by Marc Andreessen, one of the men behind Mosaic and co-founder of Netscape Communications Corporation. Netscape was unrivalled in terms of features and usability at the time. For example, one major change from previous browsers was that it allowed surfers to see parts of a website before the whole site was downloaded. This meant that people did not have to wait for minutes simply to see if the site they were loading was the actual one the were after, whilst also allowing them to read information on the site as the rest of it downloaded. By 1996 Netscape had almost 90% market dominance, as shown below.

In these two years Netscape clearly dominated the internet browser market, but a new browser named Internet Explorer was quickly gaining ground on it.

Microsoft released their own browser (ironically based on the earlier Mosaic browser which was created by one of the men now running Netscape), clearly worried about Netscape’s dominance. It was not so much the worry that it would have a 100% market share of internet browsers on their Windows operating system, but more the worry that browsers would soon be capable of running all types programs on them. That would mean foregoing the need for an actual operating system, or at the most only a very basic one would be needed. This in turn would mean Netscape would soon be able to dictate terms to Microsoft, and Microsoft were not going to let that happen easily. Thus in August 1995, Internet Explorer was released.

By 1999 Internet explorer had captured an 89.03% market share, whilst Netscape was down to 10.47%. How could Internet Explorer make this much ground in just two years? Well this was down to two things really. The first, and by far the most important was that Microsoft bundled Internet Explorer in with every new copy of Windows, and as Windows was used by about 90% of the computer using population it clearly gave them a huge advantage. Internet Explorer had one other ace it held over Netscape – it was much better. Netscape Navigator was stagnant and had been for some time. The only new features it ever seemed to introduce were often perceived by the public as beneficial for Netscape’s parent company rather than Netscape’s user base. (i.e., features that would help it monopolise the market). Explorer, on the other hand, was given much attention by Microsoft. Regular updates and excellent usability plus a hundred million dollar investment would prove too much for Netscape Explorer.

2000 – 2005

These years were fairly quiet in the Battle of the Browsers. It seemed as if Internet Explorer had won the war and that nobody could even hope to compete with it. In 2002/2003 it had attained about 95% of the market share – about the time of IE 5/6. With over 1000 people working on it and millions of dollars being poured in, few people had the resources to compete. Then again, who wanted to compete? It was clearly a volatile market, and besides that everybody was content with Internet Explorer. Or were they? Some people saw faults with IE – security issues, incompatibility issues or simply bad programming. Not only that, it was being shoved down peoples throats. There was almost no competition to keep it in line or to turn to as an alternative. Something had to change. The only people with the ability and the power to compete with Microsoft took matters into their own hands.

Netscape was now supported by AOL. A few years prior, just after they had lost the Browser Wars to Microsoft, they had released the coding for Netscape into the public domain. This meant anybody could develop their own browser using the Netscape skeleton. And people did. Epiphany, Galeon and Camino, amongst others, were born out of Netscape’s ashes. However the two most popular newcomers were called Mozilla and Firefox.

Mozilla was originally an open sourced project aimed to improve the Netscape browser. Eventually it was released as Netscape Navigator 7 and then 8. Later it was released as Mozilla 1.0.

Mozilla was almost an early version on another open source browser, Firefox. With it being an open source the public were able to contribute to it – adding in what features it needed, the programming it required and the support it deserved. The problems people saw in Internet Explorer were being fixed by members of the open sourced browser community via Firefox. For instance, the many security issues IE 6 had were almost entirely fixed in the very first release of Firefox. Microsoft had another fight on their hands.

2005 – Present

Firefox was the browser that grew and grew in these years. Every year capturing an even larger market share percentage than before. More user friendly than most of its rivals along with high security levels and arguably more intelligent programming helped its popularity. With such a large programming community behind it, updates have always been regular and add on programs/features are often released. It prides itself on being the peoples browser. It currently has a 28.38% market share.

Apple computers have had their own browser since the mid 1990’s – Safari – complete with its own problems, such as (until recently) the inability to run Java scripts. However most Apple users seemed happy with it and a version capable of running on Windows has been released. It has had no major competitor on Apple Macs, and as such has largely been out of the Browser Wars. It currently holds a 2.54% market share and is slowly increasing.

Internet Explorer’s market share has dropped from over 90% to around 75%, and is falling. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft will attempt to regain such a high market share.

Opera currently holds 1.07%.

Mozilla itself only has a 0.6% market share these days.

The Future of Web Browsing

Web browsers come and go. It is the nature of technology (if such a term can be used), to supplant inferior software in very short periods of time. It is almost impossible for a single company to stay ahead of the competition for long. Microsoft have the advantage of being able to release IE with any Windows using PC. That covers over 90% of the market. They also have the advantage of unprecedented resources. They can compete how they wish for as long as they wish. So there is no counting IE out of the future of web browsing.

Safari is in a similar position, being easily the most popular Mac web browser. Its long term survival is dependant upon Apple and the sale of their computers.

These are the only two browsers that are almost guaranteed another five years of life, at least. Firefox may seem like another candidate, but the public is fickle, and one bad release, or if it seriously lags behind the new Internet Explorer 8 for long, could easily see its popularity quickly descend into virtual oblivion.

However, it seems likely community driven browsers, such as Mozilla and Firefox, will be the only types of browser capable of competing with the wealthy internet arm of Microsoft in the near future.

As for web browsing itself, will it change any time soon? Well it already has for some online communities. For example, if you want to buy clothes you could try entering an online ‘world’ creating an online virtual You to go from ’shop to shop’ with, looking at products and trying/buying what you see. Some ‘worlds’ allow you to recreate yourself accurately including weight and height and then try on things apparel such as jeans to give you an idea of how you would look in that particular item.

Will ‘worlds’ like this destroy normal web browsers such as IE ? – It seems unlikely. Traditional web browsers provide such freedom and ease of access that it is hard to see any other alternative taking over. However they are part of the new, ‘thinking out of the box’ wave of alternatives that some people will find attractive, and really who knows what the future will bring.

Getting to know yourself is easy to do with a consistent investment of time and focus. Basically, you’d start just like you would if you wanted to get to know another person better – you’d spend quality time with them! By spending frequent quality time with yourself, you’ll gain a clearer idea of who you are.

Start by considering your interests and passions. Grab a sheet of paper and jot down some of the things you enjoy doing now, or have wanted to explore in the past. If you’re not sure, think about the things you did when you were younger. Have you always had an interest in creative activities like art and photography? Did you belong to any clubs in school? Have you always wanted to take foreign language classes or travel to exotic places?

Eventually you’ll want to devote time to exploring these activities because they’ll help you to grow more fully into yourself as a person. However, for now simply explore your dreams, passions and interests on paper.

It’s also a good idea to get an idea of your personal values using this same process. What is most important to you? Honesty, love, compassion, service to others, family connections, making a positive difference in the world? Jot down some ideas about the things that really matter to you. Through these values you’ll get a clearer idea of the type of person you are.

Eventually you’ll want to be sure that the majority of your daily activities are in line with these values. For example, does your job support your value of honesty, or are you required to “fib” or act in ways that are contrary to your values? This is important because you will never feel truly empowered until you are living in alignment with your core values!

Another great way to get to know yourself better is through journaling. When you journal, you are connecting with a deeper part of yourself: your authentic self! Start by writing down some of your inner thoughts and insights about yourself. If you’re not sure exactly what to write, try asking questions like these:

• Who am I?
• Why am I here?
• What is my life purpose?
• What am I here to contribute to the world?
• What do others think of me?
• Is that who I really am?

Don’t worry about getting the answers right – the important thing is to explore your personality and get a clearer idea of who you are. Open your mind and let the answers spill out onto the page.

Getting to know yourself is a process that will continue throughout the rest of your life, but the more connected you become with your inner self, the more confident, self-assured – and empowered – you’re going to feel.

Konsep ini dapat direalisasikan berdasarkan interaksi dan ide dari beberapa perusahaan, institusi dan organisasi yang ikut berperan di Living Tomorrow ini. Beberapa perusahaan terkemuka yang berpatisipasi antara lain Philip Moris, 3 Com, Phillips, Alcatel, DHL International, Microsoft, Opel Belgium, Promedia, Xerox dan lain sebagainya.

Perusahaan-perusahaan tersebut mengembangkan hasil ide dan kreativitasnya dengan menghasilkan sebuah produk yang mampu berinteraksi dan meningkatkan kualitas hidup dan bekerja di masa yang akan datang.

Dasar dari pengembangan Living Tomorrow adalah informasi. Informasi adalah segalanya. Setiap kita bangun pagi, hal yang paling sering kita lakukan adalah mendapatkan informasi terbaru yang ada di sekeliling kita. Entah itu dengan koran ataupun dengan berita di televisi ataupun melalui internet. Begitu pula jika kita ingin memasak, namun kita tidak tahu cara memasaknya maupun bahan-bahan yang nanti akan digunakan. Kita harus mencari informasi mengenai pemasakan tersebut. Bisa dengan membeli buku masak atau melalui resep-resep makanan yang ada di tabloid. Dan seterusnya. Inti dari kehidupan masa yang akan datang adalah Informasi. Semakin cepat informasi bisa kita dapatkan dan akurat, akan sangat berharga sekali bagi kita. Itulah sepintas kehidupan di masa sekarang dan masa yang akan datang.

Living Tomorrow menangkap perkembangan dan pola hidup tradisional dari masyarakat. Dengan tidak meninggalkan ciri – ciri tradisional dari kehidupan masyarakat, maka Living Tomorrow mengembangkannya menjadi suatu konsep kehidupan di masa yang akan datang dengan berbasiskan ICT (Information Communication Technology). Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi adalah menjadi bagian dasar yang sangat penting dari berbagai konsep yang ada di Living Tomorrow.

Sebagai contoh adalah Mirror TV, yang dikembangkan oleh Phillips. Mirror TV mengembangkan suatu konsep kaca yang dapat menampilkan informasi-informasi mengenai kehidupan di sekitar kita. Pada saat kita sedang menggosok gigi atau mencukur jenggot di wastafel di pagi hari, maka otomatis di kaca akan muncul kondisi tubuh anda saat itu, berdasarkan sensor yang ada di sikat gigi anda. Setelah itu anda dapat mengubahnya, menjadi kaca yang dapat menampilkan berita-berita hangat di pagi hari . Bisa berita perakiraan cuaca, suhu udara, kemacetan, politik olahraga maupun sebagainya. Menarik bukan ? Masih banyak lagi berbagai macam peralatan yang ada di Living Tomorrow.
